What should you expect during Juvederm Dermal Filler injection?

Dr. Long, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon administers Juvederm injections typically within 15-45 minutes depending on the number of syringes used. Once Dr. Long is finished with the injection(s), the results can be seen immediately.

Dr. Long strives to make you comfortable and at ease so your experience is a pleasant one.

Dr. Long will initially make skin marks with an eyeliner pencil to identify the landmarks of the injection. Then, by using an ultra-fine needle or a smooth-tipped cannula, the Dermal Filler is injected into the target area with minimal or discomfort. Dr. Long will discuss the process so that you know what is being done. At the end, Dr. Long, MD will massage the treatment area to smooth contours. In certain critical areas like the cheek or  underneath the eyes, Dr. Long will inject local anesthesia to minimize discomfort.

Unlike surgical options, Juvederm has minimal downtime, which means patients are free to resume their normal life the moment they walk out of the office.

The injections of Juvederm are easily reversed if you desire by simply injecting an enzyme, the dermal filler can be removed.

How long will my results last with Juvederm Dermal Filler?

The duration of the dermal fillers varies depending on the type of dermal filler used and the patient. The movement of the area injected influences the longevity of the filler. Juvederm has been demonstrated to last up to 1 year.

What are the most common side effects of Juvederm Dermal filler?

Immediately following the injections, you may experience some mild redness, minor swelling or bruising in the treatment area. These symptoms typically disappear within few days. Allergic reactions are extremely rare.  Most patients are able to resume normal activities immediately following the treatment.

What should I do before treatment with Juvederm dermal filler?

Patient should refrain of any medications that make the blood “thin” (blood thinners) and therefore increase the risk of bruising with the injection process. Medications and supplements to avoid are aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, fish oil, and other blood thinners for at least one (1) week before treatment. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be safely taken prior to or after any injection since it does not increase the risk of post injection bruising.

What should I do after treatment with Juvederm dermal filler?

Patients should refrain from taking any medication or dietary supplement that can act as a blood thinner for a minimum of 48 hours after injection. Patients should also refrain from doing exercise for at least 48 hours after injection (exercise increases temporarily the blood pressure, thus increasing the risks of bruising at the injection sites). We recommended ice packs to the treated area off and on for 6 to 10 hours post treatment.
